How much would you spend on an Advent Calendar?

When you have children you appreciate things that would never have caught your eye previously. Take advent calendars for example, once upon a time these were merely window dressings, festive distractions around the check out area at the supermarket, however once you have children it can be these little accessories which can cause so much jubilation (or angst if you get it wrong), that they become a significant must-do in late November.

If you’re a bit of a kid yourself when it comes to Christmas it looks like you could be in for a treat.  Retailers are now capitalising on this ancient tradition and it would seem that beauty calendars have become the de riguer pre Christmas gift.

Adults can now re-live the excitement of waking up and opening the tiny door that hastens the arrival of Santa! Only it’s not a picture of a Christmas pudding or a small chocolate they’re finding inside but in some cases a very generous gift indeed.

We’ve taken a look at some of the best beauty calendars around as well as good old fashioned, so whether your budget is £300 or £3 there’s something for you (or your children if they’re lucky!);

Starting at the top of the tree is Jo Malone The Luxury Advent Calendar. Weighing in at a hefty £260.00 this will buy you some serious brownie points if you gift it to the one you love! (available from Harrods and Jo Malone).

Liberty are offering their 24 days of beauty tricks for £149 with includes goodies form Dermalogica, Diptyque, NARS, ESPA and Kiehls to name a few. (available from Liberty).

Benefit is marketing their Party Popper calendar for £35 and is packed with lots of their favourite goodies (available from benefit cosmetics.co.uk).

For the boys the Lego Star Wars calendar comes in at £29.99 and provides 24 star wars themed gifts for busy fingers.

If your budget is more modest then the Flutter calendar is perfect for teens and at a bargain price of only £8 it contains a collection of mini cosmetics for eye, lip and nails, and a mirror. (Available from Superdrug).

If you want something bit different John Lewis are selling  24 advent crackers to count down the days to Christmas. Featuring a sheet of stickers numbered 1-24 you can put in your own treat. Currently reduced from £15 to £7.50 (available from John Lewis)

For the traditionalists out there and like things kept simple then this Nativity calendar is the one for you available for £9 from Lakeland.

Or if you really can’t resist the chocolates then go upmarket and pluck for Lindt’s festive offering at £5.40 (available from from Lindt.co.uk)

So far we haven’t found one with a turkey inside but I guess it’s only a matter of time!

    Before reading this post I would have said about £1.50 but I love these. I think I’m going to get the Star Wars one for my friends son.
